Para registro, hoje foram 7 horas e meia de ralação.

Comecei lixando as bordas para dar acabamento suficiente para receber os decks e aproveitei para lixar ao longo de todas as ripas do costado. Não acaba nunca. Detonei o almofada (borracha) da lixadeira de tanto que lixei hoje.

For the record, today was 7 hours and a half of hard work. Started sanding the inner gunwales to give finishing enough to receive the decks and decided to sand all the wales. Never ends. Blasted the sander pad (rubber) due to so much sanding today.

No projeto eu não achei referência de desenho para joelhos do paiol de proa, mas aproveitei duas cantoneiras que estavam semi-prontas e resolvi reforçar a estrutura. Erro meu. Embora não exista desenho, o texto Jim Michalak fala claramente sobre joelhos na popa e na proa. Colei também o reforço onde será fixado o cunho de proa.(abaixo, no centro da foto)

In the plans I could not find a reference to knees bow, but I took two angles that were semi-ready and decided to strengthen the structure. My mistake. Jim gives clear written instructions knees on bow and stern. Installed also strengthening which will set the bow D ring. (Bottom center photo)

E hoje foi dia de consertar a lambança que fiz com o apoio do mastro. Espero que funcione. Deixei lá colando.

Aproveitando a resina misturada colei as ripas dos decks que também ficaram secando.

Taking advantage of the mixed resin glued the slats of decks that were also left drying up. 

Quis testar a tinta. Comprei Novacor Piso Ultra. Abaixo a primeira demão no paiol de popa. Tinta a base de água é uma maravilha.

 Fiquei devendo as fotos da bolina e do leme depois do desbaste. Ai estão elas. Tirei só o suficiente para evitar vibração com a turbulência. Espero que tenha sido suficiente.

Adubando a vida, ou melhor, o barco ! / Composting life, or rather the boat!

Pois é leitor amigo. Certas coisas a gente nem deveria escrever aqui. Mas cabra macho e masoquista que se preze dá a cara a tapa. E espero que isto sirva de alerta para alguém. No episódio anterior deixei colando o suporte superior do mastro. Eu já sabia que a massa epóxi poderia entrar nos furos onde irão os parafusos causando problemas, mas já tinha traçada a estratégia. Tirar o excesso ainda com o epóxi mole com o próprio parafuso e ....se algo ainda restasse, martelar o parafuso até quebrar o epóxi endurecido. Gênio ! Tudo previsível. 3 dos 4 furos passaram ilesos. No último (tem que ser no último!) eu vi que havia obstrução e comecei a martelar com o martelo de borracha, cuidadosamente. Sabe o que acontece quando vc martela e nada acontece ? Vc martela mais forte ! E mais forte ! E mais forte ! E ai vc ouve aquele som de rompimento. Perfeito !  Previsível ! O que ? Som de madeira caindo sobre o casco ? De onde veio isso ? Olha ai a lambança. Quebrou !

Well dear reader. Certain things we should not even write here. But a masochistic male with guts gives face to slap. And I hope that this serves as a warning to anyone. In the previous episode left sticking the upper the mast support. I knew I could have problems with the epoxy putty in the holes drilled to screws, but I had drawn the strategy. All predictable. 3 out of the 4 holes passed unharmed. In the last (must always be the last!) I saw that there was obstruction and started hammering with the rubber mallet, carefully. You know what happens when you hammer and nothing happens? You hammer stronger! And stronger! And stronger! And then you hear the sound of breaking. Perfect! Predictable! Planned ! What? Sound of wood falling on the hull? Where did that come from? Look at the mess there. Broke!

Lições de hoje: 1) epóxi é MUITO mais forte que madeira ! Nunca esqueça disso. 2) Se laminar madeira procure NÃO manter a mesma orientação dos grãos das camadas. Isto enfraquece o conjunto como dá para notar pela foto.

Adubo devidamente feito, passamos ao que deu certo:

Lixei o interior todo para aplicação de fibra (leve) no piso interno. Cortei o excesso das ripas do costado, abri as janelas nos decks de proa e popa e cortei as ripinhas que serão a borda da tampa.

Lessons learnt today: 1) epoxy is MUCH stronger than wood! Never forget that. 2) When laminating wood look NOT to keep the same grain orientation of the layers. This weakens the set as can be seen in the photo. Manure properly done, we move on to what worked: sanded the whole interior for application of fiber (light weight) in the internal floor. I cut the excess of the side slats, open the windows in the decks fore and aft and cut the little slats that will be the edge of the lid.

Está tudo solto ainda pois requer acabamento interno nos paióis antes de eu colar tudo.


Everything is still loose as it requires internal finishing in lockers before I paste everything.

Terminei também o lixamento do leme, cabeça do leme e da bolina. Próxima etapa é voltar a fazer meleca e selar tudo com fibra e epóxi.

Also finished sanding the rudder, rudder head and leeboard. Next step is to clean the mess and seal everything with fiber and epoxy.

Quando ? Quando ? QUANDO ?? / When ? When ? WHEN ?

Engraçado que a pergunta que mais escuto é "e quando vai ficar pronto ?" Outro dia eu até brinquei: não sei, mas se você resolver ajudar vai ser mais cedo !! hahahaha.

Até hoje eu não tinha feito cronograma. E acho que fiz bem pois foram tantos os percalços até aqui que eu estaria frustradíssimo. Doença, compromissos que surgem, diminuição do ritmo, férias...leve em conta estas coisas se for planejar seu barco.

Mas resolvi dar uma de Nostradamus e arriscar um palpite. Trabalhando bonitinho todas as semanas, 1 noite durante os dias úteis e 1 dia do final de semana eu cheguei em 21 de julho como data final.

A única certeza que eu tenho é que esta é a data mínima de finalização. O batismo será depois disso. Talvez agosto....do freguês mesmo.

Como estou achando este post parte "desabafo" e parte inútil, vou mudar radicalmente de assunto e colocar o plano de corte de chapas para quem quiser usar, considerando o compensado nacional marcado em vermelho. A antepara B (temporária) não está inclusa pois fiz com um pedaço de aglomerado (mais barato). E a terceira parte da bolina foi feita em dois pedaços cortados do espaço em branco no canto superior direito do desenho (onde estão as outras 2 partes).

Há dias que as coisas fluem...felizmente hoje foi um deles.

Laminei a segunda ripa do costado. Desta vez experimentei começar de proa, onde a flexão da madeira é maior. Foi muito melhor assim. Recomendo esta sequencia indo a ré. Acontece que é muito mais fácil vergar a madeira com um pedaço maior ainda a ser fixado. Meio óbvio, mas a recomendação do Michalak era ao contrário, não sei por que motivo. (Novamente li errado. Jim recomenda a sequencia correta).

There are days when things go ... thankfully today was one of them.

Laminated second gunwales. This time I tried to start the forecastle, where the bending of wood is greater. It was so much better. I recommend this sequence going aft. It turns out that it is much easier to bend in a piece of wood to be set still higher. Kind of obvious, but the recommendation was unlike Michalak, do not know why. (Again I read it wrong. Jim recommends the right sequence)

Acabei parafusando a maioria das fixações e só usei 4 sargentos de cada lado. A segunda ripa é bem mais fácil de laminar que a primeira.

I ended up screwing the majority of fixations and only used 4 clamps each side. The second strip is easier to laminate compared to the first.

E sobrou tempo para fixar o apoio do mastro. Os parafusos grandes de telha que tenho são curtos. Vou precisar de parafusos mais longos. Os colocados ai são temporários somente para colar o apoio do mastro.

And there was enough time to install the mast support. The large screws used in roofs that I have are short. I'll need bigger ones. The ones used below are temporary to glue the support.

De quebra ainda consegui cortar os decks de proa e popa e ainda trabalhar um pouco no shape da bolina. Hoje foi o primeiro dia que usei uma plaina manual. Ferramenta cansativa, mas muito eficiente. Gostei.

Besides that I was able to cut decks (stern and bow) and work a little shaping the leeboard. Today was the first day using a manual plane. Very tiring tool, but very effective. I liked it.

TENSO ! / TENSE !

Depois de colar os joelhos chegou a vez de laminar as ripas do costado. Depois de 2 horas de trabalho terminei a primeira ripa dos dois bordos. Agora é esperar secar para laminar a segunda ripa sobre a primeira.

After pasting the knees it came to laminate the side slats. After 2 hours of work I finished the first of the two strips. I'll wait it to dry to laminate the second strip over the first.

É sargento pra todo lado. Eu não tinha grampos suficientes para os dois bordos. O jeito foi improvisar com parafusos em alguns lugares, o que atrasou o trabalho.


C clamps everywhere. I did not have enough clamps for the two sides. The solution was to improvise with screws in some places, which delayed the work.

Comecei a fixação pela popa parafusando a ripa no joelho e indo para vante. Quando se chega na região da proa a tensão na madeira é imensa. Chego a duvidar que a fina camada de epóxi irá segurar....será ?

I started fixing from the stern screwing the batten knee and going forward (wrong way). When arriving in the bow region the tension in the wood was immense. I rather doubt that the thin layer of epoxy will hold .... will it?

Desvirando de novo ou right side up again !

Achei que a Redelease estaria aberta no sábado e me enganei. Resultado: ainda sem resina.

O tarde foi gasta cortando os joelhos (knees em inglês, não sei o termo náutico em português) e lixando a bolina para tentar chegar a um shape menos quadrado. A recomendação ideal seria de um perfil de asa padrão NACA, mas não irei buscar esta precisão. O que busco é o simples lazer funcional. Nada esportivo. Então irei apenas arredondar a borda de ataque e afinar a borda de saída para evitar vibração na bolina.

Aproveitei para testar se a mescla (tipo de madeira) iria aguentar a flexão que não é pouca na borda do costado. Deixei a madeira já na posição que será colada para ir ganhando forma. A expectativa é colar somente daqui 1 semana.

Abaixo a foto dos joelhos (triângulos de bombordo e boreste) que serão fixados na popa e darão sustentação para a fixação da borda (ripa de mescla).

Aproveito para alertar que não comprem este grampos pretos de plástico. Quebram com uma facilidade incrível, bem quando vc mais precisa deles. Use sargentos (vermelhos) ou grampo de metal (laranja).

I thought Redelease would be open on Saturday and I was wrong. Result: no resin. The afternoon was spent cutting the knees (knees in English, do not know the nautical term in Portuguese) and sanding the leeboard to try to reach a least square shape. The ideal recommendation would be a standard NACA wing profile, but I will not get this accuracy. What I seek is the simple functional leisure. Nothing sporty. So I will just round off the leading edge and trailing edge tune to prevent vibration.

Fim da fibragem externa / End of external fiberglassing.

Hoje não postarei fotos visto que esteticamente nada mudou. Terminei de colocar toda a fibra na parte externa do casco.

Infelizmente a resina acabou o que irá atrasar um pouco a impregnação externa. Creio que serão necessárias mais 2 demãos antes da pintura.

A próxima etapa, depois da cura do epóxi que com este tempo frio deve demorar umas 36 horas, é desvirar o casco novamente, fazer as cantoneiras de madeira da popa e laminar as bordas estruturais do costado.

E bora comprar mais resina.

Today no photos since nothing has changed aesthetically. I finished putting all the fiber on the outside of the hull. Unfortunately the resin ended which will slow just a bit outside impregnation. I believe that will be needed over 2 more coats before painting. The next step, after curing the epoxy, that with this cold weather should take a 36 hours, is righting the hull again, make angles wood and laminate the gunwales, the structural part of the sides. Let's buy more resin.

Feriado do trabalho trabalhando / Labor Day working.

Aproveitei o feriadão em plena quarta-feira e fui ao estaleiro adiantar algumas coisinhas.

Abaixo o que será a cana do leme e as laminações do colar do mastro e do suporte inferior da bolina.
