A adorável Tarituba de novo / The lovely Tarituba again

Saímos de São Paulo em direção a Tarituba com tempo bom mas previsão de chuva e vento fraco para sábado e domingo. A viagem foi tranquila mas demorada. Comecei a escutar um barulho estranho vindo da carreta que estava rebocando. Parei para verificar e descobri que o pino do engate estava se soltando. Levei a caixa de ferramentas na viagem mas foi de pouca valia. Nenhuma das minhas chaves de boca serviu para apertar a porca que fica encapsulada no engate. A cada 30~40km parava para apertar um pouco, o que atrasou um pouco a viagem e deixou o clima meio tenso. Chegamos às 17:30h da sexta-feira com tempo bom e vento fraco.

We left São Paulo toward Tarituba in good weather but with forecast of rain and light winds for Saturday and Sunday. The trip was uneventful but took long. I began to hear a strange noise coming from the trailer towed behind our car. I stopped to check and found that the hitch pin was loosening. Took the toolbox on the trip but it was of little value. None of my wrenches served to tighten the nut that is encapsulated in the hitch. Every 30 ~ 40km stopped to tighten a bit, which delayed the trip a bit and left the mood tense. We arrived at 17: 30h on Friday in good weather and little wind.

Fomos direto para a praia deixar o Sussa “no jeito” para o dia seguinte. Encontramos o Flávio, Caparroz e o Júlio (estreante em Tarituba) montando o CD00 (trimarã monoposto de projeto e execução próprios). Com a tradicional camaradagem e ajuda com os barcos o Sussa foi desembarcado e aprontado rapidamente. O Sol estava se pondo e nuvens cobriram rapidamente o céu. Mesmo assim o Caparroz conseguiu as fotos abaixo onde sai com o Flávio para um teste com o Sussa. Não quis ir longe pois com o anoitecer o vento estava diminuindo. Voltamos no remo, totalmente sem vento e com o Flávio fazendo um exercício vespertino não planejado. Danilo e Nívea chegaram trazendo com eles o Max, seu Windglider e o caiaque novo da Nívea, um Hidroglassrio amarelo que seria objeto de muitas aventuras no dia seguinte. No retorno da praia para a pousada, já no escuro, encontrei o Borba que estava chegando naquela hora com sua  esposa Julie, a filha Paula e a Luna, um lindo Skerry (Projeto comercializado pela Chesapeake Light Craft – CLC) muito bem construído. A reunião da noite foi no tradicional boteco caiçara onde nos encontramos e se juntaram ao grupo os casais Marcelo Maia e Karla Matos e Furacão e Esposa.

We went straight to the beach leaving Sussa "ready" for the next day. Met Flavio, Caparroz and Julio (newbie in Tarituba) preparing CD00 (trimaran of own design and self build). With traditional companionship and help when the word sailboat comes to mind Sussa was landed and quickly prompted to launch. The sun was setting and the clouds quickly covered the sky. Even so Caparroz got the photos below where I left with Flavio for a test with Sussa. Did not go far because with nightfall the wind was lessening. We returned rowing, totally windless and Flavio doing an afternoon exercising (unplanned). Danilo and Nivea arrived bringing Max with them and his Windglider and the new Nivea’s kayak, a yellow Hidroglassrio that would be the object of many adventures the next day. On the way from the beach to the inn, already in the dark, I met Borba arriving with family, Julie, the wife, Paula the daughter, and Luna, a beautiful Skerry (Project available from Chesapeake Light Craft - CLC) very well built. The evening meeting was in local traditional pub where joined the group the couples Marcelo Maia and Karla Matos and Furacão and wife.

Sábado pela manhã, ao chegar na praia, o Genilson já estava com seu recém lançado modelo a postos, o Trimarã Pasquale Sea Adventure, aguardando um brinde ! Fizemos também um brinde ao novo caiaque da Nívea, também da Hidroglassrio. As fotos abaixo falam por si.

Saturday morning, arriving at the beach, Genilson already had her newly released model in place, the trimaran Pasquale Sea Adventure, awaiting a toast! We also made a toast to the new Nívea’s kayak alsomade by Hidroglassrio. The pictures below speak for themselves.

Aproveitei o vento fraco da manhã para sair da praia e ficar a espera da flotilha que partiria para a lha do Pelado. E fiquei na espera mesmo. O vento acabou e permitiu um mergulho das meninas na baía de Tarituba.

I took the light wind in the morning to leave the beach and sit around waiting for the flotilla to depart for thePelado Island. The wind died and allowed a dip of the girls in the bay of Tarituba.

Logo começou a soprar uma brisa e a flotilha começou a se desgarrar da praia. Borba saiu no remo de voga (uma das vantagens do Skerry) e abriu a dianteira deixando os demais na espera do vento que sumiu de novo. Nívea também desgarrou remando à frente e percebi a fragilidade dos reminhos de alumínio quando comparados aos de voga para um barco com a boca do Sussa. Desisti de remar e esperei o retorno no vento. Valeu a pena. Veio forte e permitiu uma velejada prazerosa e tranquila até uma das praias da Ilha do Pelado. Na sequencia chegaram à ilha o Borba e família com a Luna, Marcelo e Karla com o hidroglassrio duplo, Genilson com o duplo do Furacão, Nívea com seu monoposto e o Danilo com o Pasquale Adventure. Pude registrar algumas destas chegadas à ilha no vídeo mais abaixo. Max, Táxi Comum, Júlio, Caparroz e Flávio ficaram se divertindo em Tarituba mesmo enquanto dávamos esta voltinha até a ilha.

Soon began to blow a breeze and the fleet began to stray from the beach. Borba went out rowing Luna(point to Skerry) and opened the front leaving the others waiting for the wind that disappeared again. Nivea also strayed paddling ahead and I realized the fragility of my short aluminum shafts paddles when compared to the wood oars for a boat with the beam of Sussa. I gave up paddling and waited for the windto return. Worth it. Came stronger and allowed a pleasant and tranquil sail to one of the beaches on thePelado Island. In the sequence arrived on the island the Borba family with Luna, Marcelo and Karla with double seater hidroglassrio, Genilson with the Furacão’s double , Nivea with his single seater and Danilotesting the Pasquale Sea Adventure for the first time. I could record some of these arrivals to the island on the video below. Max, Taxi Common, Julio, Caparroz and Flavio were having fun in Tarituba while the others gave this ride to the island.

Comemos uma porção de camarãozinho e outra de mandioca frita (uma delícia)  e tomamos uma cervejinha, racionada, mas suficiente para molhar o bico e reanimar para a volta. Saímos em direção a Tarituba com vento forte e mar um pouco mais agitado, prometendo um retorno rápido e emocionante. Ledo engano. O vento foi diminuindo, começou a rondar e logo logo os remos entraram em ação novamente. Nívea escolheu uma rota mais próxima ao continente e remou muuuito ! Como eu já tinha desistido de remar escolhi a rota mais para o centro da baía, onde acreditei estar ventando um pouco mais. Deu certo. Consegui chegar sem remo aproveitando a brisa e a vela grande do Sussa. Genilson disparou na frete com seu Pasquale Adventure (barco muito veloz!) e teve tempo até para parar e pescar enquanto aguardava o restante da flotilha. Chegamos a Tarituba já com algum chuvisco e esperando a chuva que cairia mais tarde. E ela veio, para ficar até o domingo.

We ate little fried shrimps and fried cassava (delicious) and had a beer, rationed, but enough to wet our throats and revive to the way back. We left toward Tarituba with strong wind and a little more choppy sea, promising a fast and exhilarating return. Ooops ! Mistake. The wind died down, and began to circle putting oars into action again. Nivea chose a route closest to the mainland and paddled looong! As I had already given up paddle I chose the route closer to the center of the bay, where I believed to be a bit windy. It worked. I made it without paddling enjoying the breeze. Genilson jump ahead with his Pasquale Adventure (very fast sailboat!) and had time to stop and catch up while waiting for the rest of the flotilla. We arrived atTarituba with some drizzle and waiting for the rain that would fall later. The rain came and remained until Sunday.

Um evento mais uma vez prazeroso, com pessoas agradáveis e velejadas com o  espírito de que mais gosto: o da camaradagem. Mais uma vez Tarituba deixa saudades já na partida. E não vai dar para esperar mais um ano. Deve sair coisa antes disso. Fique ligado ! 

An event once more pleasurable, enjoyable with people that have the spirit I like most: camaraderie. AgainI already miss Tarituba. This time we won’t wait another whole year. Something must come out before that. Stay tuned!

Férias ! / Vacation !

Verão chegando ao fim, mas ainda há tempo para belas (e quentes) velejadas ! Desta vez foi na praia de Itaguá em Ubatuba.

Summer coming to an end, but there is still time for beautiful (and hot) sail! This time it was on the beach in Ubatuba Itaguá.

 Foi dia de desembarque de um Cruzeiro no pier, o que garantiu alguns tsunamis gerados pelos escalares do navio. Bom teste para mar mexido. hehehe

Eu não entendo mas incentivo quem gosta de cruzeiro. Afinal sobra mais areia na praia. ;) Não é difícil de imaginar que eu prefiro o lado de cá da vista.

It was a day of landing of a big cruising ship in the pier, which ensured some tsunamis generated by the ship's catamarans. Good test for rough sea. hehehe 

I do not understand but encourage those who like to cruise this way. Plenty more free sand on the beach. ;) It's not hard to imagine that I prefer this side of the view.

Testei a nova configuração da balanced lug que está na foto baixo. Ao invés de içar a espicha pelo meio (50%) como eu vinha fazendo (sugestão do site do Storer para o barco dele) eu segui a risca o projeto de Michalak e novamente não me arrependi: melhorou o controle da vela, o desempenho do barco e subiu a retranca livrando a caixa d'água aqui das pancadas! O ponto de içamento está a 27 polegadas da extremidade da espicha. Resumo do dia: se está seguindo um projeto siga ele a risca ! (ainda mantenho o sistema de moitões do Storer pois achei que ficou melhor que um olhal simples)

I tested the new configuration of the balanced lug which is pictured below. Rather than raise the sprit in the middle (50%) as I had been doing (hint of Storer website for his boat) I followed to the letter the  Michalak's project and again did not regret: improved control of the sail's performance boat and went up the boom saving my big head! The lifting point is 27 inches from the end of the sprit. Summary of the day: If you have project in your hands, just follow it ! (I still keep the system of blocks used by Storer  because I thought it was better than a simple O-ring)

De boa na lagoa / A good time on the lake

Velejador de São Paulo tem que ter tutano. Não gravei esta parte, mas quem olha o video abaixo não tem noção que foram 2 horas gastas para chegar e 3 horas para voltar. Trânsito insano ...

A Sao Paulo sailor must have marrow. Did not record this part, but who looks the video below does not realize that there were 2 hours spent to reach and 3 hours to get back. Insane traffic ...

O teste na represa foi muito bom. Com o espaço cedido pelo Julio Enzo pudemos reunir a galera da Flotilha SP da Vela Pop e demos boas risadas. Além do Sussa, estavam velejando o Feinho II (caiaque amarelo) do amigo Wagner, CD00 - trimarã 1 pessoa velejado pelo Julio  e CD01 - trimarã para 2 pessoas velejado pelo Caparroz e pelo Flávio. Eu e a Angela velejamos de Sussa e pudemos experimentar o CD01, um ótimo barco também.

The test was very good on the dam. With access provided by Julio Enzo we could meet the guys from the SP Flotilla Vela Pop and had a good time. Besides Sussa, were sailing the Feinho II (yellow kayak) owned by Wagner, CD00 - 1 person trimaran sailed by Julio and CD01 - trimaran for 2 people sailed by Caparroz and Flavio. Angela and I sailed Sussa and we could experience the CD01, a great boat too.

 
Não adicionei fundo musical ao video para quem quiser apreciar o verdadeiro espírito de velejar. Escutar a água, o vento e os pássaros. Além de umas bobagens que falamos também.....hehehe.

I did not add background music to video for those who want to enjoy the true spirit of sailing. Listen to the water, the wind and the birds. Apart of a few silly things we speak ..... hehehe.

Sussa - o veleiro simples / Sussa - the simple sailboat

 Acho que não poderia ter escolhido ocasião melhor para a data de estréia. O 1º Encontro Vela Pop Sudeste, que aconteceu na praia de Tarituba- Paraty/RJ de 08 a 10/11, foi um marco para todos os participantes a arrisco a dizer para a vela popular nacional.

Eu só conhecia os participantes pelo grupo do Facebook. Mas o espírito que encontrei lá não poderia ter sido melhor. Camaradagem, dicas, estilos diferentes e as sacaneadas de sempre, só para não perder o bom humor.

I guess I could not have picked a better date to launch. The 1st Vela Pop Southeast Messabout, which took place on the beach of Tarituba-Paraty / RJ Nov 08-10 was a milestone for all participants and I venture to say for our national small boats sailing community .

 I just knew the participants from the Facebook group. But the spirit which I found there could not have been better. Camaraderie, tips, different styles and jokes, just to keep the mood.

Após arrumar todas as tralhas e conferir o check list umas 1.000x, saí na sexta-feira de São Paulo quase 14h da tarde e cheguei a Tarituba às 18:45h. 

After tidying up all the junk and check the check list a 1,000 x, left São Paulo on Friday almost 14h in the afternoon and arrived in Tarituba 18:45h.

 

Nem fui para a pousada pois já sabia, pelos telefonemas da manhã, que a maioria do pessoal do Rio de Janeiro já havia chegado. Fui para a praia. Lá pude encontrar facilmente todos já confraternizando na mesa de um boteco pé na areia. Danilo e sua esposa Nivea, Mauro Pessanha, Marcelo Maia e a esposa Karla, todos estes do RJ e o Vagner de São Paulo, mais conhecido como Táxi Comum e Max Bastos que veio especialmente de Belém/PA para participar do evento. Eles já tinham velejado na própria sexta. Segundo o Max foi uma velejada rápida, indo até Cape Town e voltando (baita ventania!!).

Meu pai, Vera e a Natália também vieram especialmente para o evento e deram o maior apoio moral ! Guina e Potyra preferiram acordar cedo no sábado e chegaram no dia seguinte pela manhã. Valeu demais a presença de vocês !!

Mais tarde, no jantar, chegaram o Flávio e o Caparroz, que trouxeram seus trimarans CD00 e CD01.

No dia seguinte acordei cedo pois tinha muita coisa para ser feita ainda. Montagem da vela com todos os cabos passantes na retranca e espicha, também os cabos de rizo, flutuante de top, moitões, teste da adriça e da escota e retirada do barco para a praia. Ainda ficaram os detalhes do vinho frisante para o batismo e das filmagens que acabaram não acontecendo (a Kodak ZX5 me deixou na mão de novo). Recebi a visita de algumas pessoas para verificar o andamento da montagem, dentre elas o casal Danilo/Nívea, o Genilson Andrade com seu filho Fernando e o Max, que acabou dando a mão que faltava junto com seus conhecidos “pitacos” ...hehehe. 

Neither went to the inn because I knew , by the phone calls in the morning , most of the staff of Rio de Janeiro had already arrived . I went straight to the beach . There could easily find everyone already fraternizing at a pub table standing in the sand . Danilo and his wife Nivea , Mauro , Marcelo Maia and wife Karla , all from RJ and Vagner from São Paulo , known as Taxi Comum and Max Bastos who came especially from Belém / PA to attend the event . They had sailed in a few hours before. According to Max it was a fast sailing , going to Cape Town and back ( hell windy !).

My father, Vera and Natalia also came for the event and gave moral support! Guina and Potyra preferred wake up early on Saturday and arrived the next day morning. Thanks too the presence of you!

Later, at dinner, arrived Flavio and Caparroz, who brought their trimarans CD00 and CD01.

The next day I woke up early because I had a lot to be done yet. Sail assembly with all cables passersby on the boom and sprit , also reef cables, floating top , hoists , test halyard and mainsheet and move the boat to the beach . Still got the details of sparkling wine for baptism and the footage that ended up not happening ( Kodak ZX5 failed again) . I was visited by some people to check the progress of the assembly , among them the couple Danilo / Nivea, Genilson Andrade with his son Fernando and Max, who ended up giving a hand missing along with his acquaintances " pitacos " ... hehehe .

Levamos o veleirinho para a areia e na presença do pessoal da foto e da fotógrafa eu fiz o discurso de agradecimento e a tal da “mandinga” pedindo proteção para o poderoso soberano das águas e para os 4 ventos. O pessoal ficou entediado com esta parte, eu esqueci o discurso e misturei tudo, mas fazer o que ? “No creo en brujas, pero que las hay, las hay!” 

We took the little vessel to the sand and in the presence of personnel of the photo and the photographer I made the acceptance speech asking for protection for the mighty ruler of the waters and the four winds. The staff got bored with this part, I forgot part of the speech and mixed everything, but what to do?  “No creo en brujas, pero que las hay, las hay!”

Sussa nasceu e foi batizado com a primeira velejada minha com o “professor” Max. Fizemos até uma remada estilo “amazônico” pois o espelho d’água permitia tal abuso. Ficamos os dois no mesmo bordo navegando sobre o painel de porão e a borda quase permitindo a entrada da água.

A melhor velejada da minha vida foi em companhia do meu amor, Gê. Fizemos uma "regatinha" ao redor da ilha do Breu seguidos por Danilo, Mauro e Max em seus respectivos barcos.  O vento estava perfeito, a companhia perfeita, o mar colaborando...não faltou nada.

Um barco excelente. Jim Michalak fez um trabalho soberbo. E eu tive a chance de poder experimentar esta maravilha.

Sussa was born and baptized and the first sailing was with my "teacher" Max. We paddle "Amazon" style because the water surface allowed such abuse. We were both on the same bilge panel and hold almost allowing the entry of water.

The best sailing of my life was in the company of my love, Ge. We did a run around the Breu island followed by Danilo, Mauro and Max in their boats. The wind was perfect, the perfect company, collaborating sea ... did not miss anything.

An excellent boat. Jim Michalak did a superb job. And I had the chance to experience this wonder.

(Sussa is a short form of Sossegado. The translator tells me it means tranquil, quiet. The feeling I get most when sailing.)

Na carreta / On trailer.

Hoje, com a ajuda da Gê e do skate, o veleirinho foi levado para a carreta. Fixei os suportes dos remos, testei a lona azul da foto que servirá de capa e fiquei mais um tantinho feliz em ver o bicho lá quase pronto. Coloquei o bambu de reforço dentro do mastro gentilmente cedido pelo Dr. Demosthenes, meu pai. Valeu paizão ! Agradecimentos também a meu tio Hermógenes (sim, meus avós eram criativos com nomes) que deu dicas valiosas para o tratamento do bambu. Por falta de tempo farei no próximo reforço.

Não dará tempo de trabalhar nos detalhes pois dia 09/11 tem estréia em Tarituba - Paraty/RJ. Mas acredito que a parte funcional já está garantida. Vamos que vamos !


Today, with the help of Ge and a skateboard, the little vessel was taken to its trailer. I fixed the supports of the oars, tested the blue canvas of the photo that will be the cover and was once more trifle happy to admire it almost ready. I also put the bamboo reinforcement inside the mast courtesy of Dr. Demosthenes, my father. Thanks daddy! Thanks also to my uncle Hermogenes (yes, my grandparents were creative with names) who gave valuable tips for the treatment of bamboo. For lack of time, will be done in the next reinforcement.

Won't have time to work on details. Nov 9th will be the debut at Tarituba - Paraty / RJ. But I believe that the functional part is already guaranteed. Here we go!
